So – you need to measure your employees productivity?
As I’m sure you’re aware, that’s not always the easiest thing in the world to do. There’s lots at play to measuring the “productivity” of an individual.
But fear not – because today I’m going to be sharing a cool little trick you can implement in your business, that will measure how productive your employees are
FIRST THINGS FIRST: If you haven’t already seen my video on measuring your efficiency through an automated app called RescueTime, make sure you check that out, because you can use that trick along with this one to get some hard data to back up what we’re going to cover in this post.
So – this is a little trick I learned when I was a project manager for a company about 4 or 5 years back.
Get all of your employees to write down all their tasks for the day. If they are on a computer, you can get any text program to use it – if they aren’t just use a notebook or something along those lines.
Next – when the day is over, your going to have each employee update their to-do’s into 3 categories.
- Completed (we marked in green)
- Worked on, but not completed (we marked in blue)
- Didn’t start (we marked in red)
And compile all of these for each employee… somewhere. Whatever is most comfortable to you at the end of the day.
Every week, go through each employees week and assess the following:
Did they accomplish everything they needed to?
How long are their projects taking?
What didn’t they work on?
These 3 categories should give you anything you really need to know on a basic level. It is also easy to do, when we did ours it took me an average of 15 minutes a day to fill out my to-do’s. And as a project manager, gave me a great visibility on everyone else’s productivity and what they were getting done on a day to day, and if they needed some motivation or needed to pick up the slack.
It also let me know if someone was getting overburdened with work, or if projects were behind schedule.
The only downside to this process is it does have some manual elements – but it’s pretty simple to implement, and damn effective!
So – with that little trick, you should be able to get a 10,000ft overview on your employees, their efficiency, and when/if you need to move things around to make sure your business is operating at full capacity!
